Most popular conversations in a taxi

We’ve all been there: that awkward taxi journey where we sit, and sit, and no one says anything. Perhaps the traffic is particularly bad, or the weather pretty poor, but it still leaves the driver and passenger in a slightly awkward situation. What on earth do people talk about when they are sitting in a taxi with someone that they have only just met minutes ago?

If you are ever in this situation, then here are our three top topics for you to bring up which will help keep the conversation rolling until you reach your destination:

1. The weather.

We are, after all, British. The weather is one of the few things that we do best ñ we seem to have more of it, and more variety of it than any other country. So even if the sun is shining and we’re not in a drought, we can guarantee you that there will be something to say. Maybe the price of sun cream has gone up because of the sunshine ñ there is something to talk about (complain about…).

2. The Queen.

Love her or hate her, the Queen and the Royal Family are always getting up to something. Baby Prince George has proved a wonderful source of conversation for people the world over, so there is no reason why you should not join in too. The Royal Family can often be a sore point for some people, but everyone, even if it is begrudgingly, loves the Queen.

3. Sport.

The topic of last resort. If you don’t follow a sport, pick a name at random, and start talking about how you wish you saw more of them. That will automatically start a conversation with someone ñ even if neither of you are really sure what you are talking about….
